According to Semana magazine in the last years the families spent to save only 5% of their income to 22,6%. Old Mutual, a group of expert companies in the financial service market described that the households that has a man as leader, increase its savings in 272% from 6,6% by 2003 to 24,5% by 2012. Single mother increase their saving from near 0 to 19%.

 

Another fact is that the 37% of the population saves money under their mattress or in a piggy because of the distrust of keep the saving in financial institutions. The 12% of Colombians saves in banks accounts; of that 12%, 38% are people that belong to stratum 5 and 6.
